Does following up on a prospect matter? You bet it does!

Have you ever put off writing a follow-up note to a potential client, referral or networking colleague because it seemed like it was either unimportant or you were too busy?

If you have done that before – STOP!!

It is so important to take the time to send out a quick note letting someone know that you enjoyed meeting with them.  Believe it or not, they WILL remember you!

A month ago I attended a networking luncheon where I met a web designer and a media consultant for a magazine. Being a freelance writer, I knew I definitely wanted to oil those two squeaky wheels!!

After the luncheon I sent them little notes letting them know I enjoyed meeting them and asked that they keep me in mind for future work for them or for someone they know. (great way to ask for a referral!!)

Today, nearly a month later, I received phone calls from BOTH OF THEM! The media consultant wants to feature me in their April issue about writers (FREE ADVERTISING BABY!!) and even mentioned the note that I sent. She said it was so sweet and she will ‘never, ever forget me’.

Oh, and the web designer?  He contracted me out for a job with the possibility of steady work in the near future.  Do you think I would have received a phone call much less even crossed their mind had I not sent those personal notes?  I don’t think so.

In this day of technology and computers, personal contact still matters.
